At the DripBar, our IV nutrient drips have combinations of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and amino acids that are specifically formulated to boost energy levels, improve vitality, reduce stress and improve general well-being.
The Energy Boost Drip
By far one of the most popular drips, this specific IV nutrient formula contains:
- Vitamin B Complex (1,2,3,5,6)
- Vitamin B 12
- Vitamin C
- Magnesium
- ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid)
- L-Carnitine
- N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)
For more details on the benefits and indication of each of these ingredients, please visit the previous blog post:
It is the unique and powerful combination of the last three ingredients listed above that makes this drip so effective. The three ingredients: ALA, L-Carnitine and NAC, when used together, stimulate the mitochondria of the cell. The mitochondria are known as the power houses of the cell and the energy producers of the body. Here’s how:
The food we eat is converted into glucose by the body. This glucose is absorbed from the blood stream into the cells of the body where it is then converted into ATP (energy) by the mitochondria of the cell. ATP is then used to power or energise the various functions of the body… both internal (digestion, breathing, pumping of the heart etc) as well as external work, exercise, daily activities etc).
Damaged or dysfunctional mitochondria will result in low or poor energy (ATP) production. This in turn will manifest in the body in various ways including fatigue, lethargy, illness and disease.
Healthy mitochondria that are able to produce sufficient ATP to meet the needs of the body are fundamentals to health, energy and vitality.
A side note on L-Carnitine:
Many of you exercise enthusiasts may recognise L-Carnitine. It is an amino acid supplement used by many athletes and individuals who exercise regularly and work our hard to support muscle growth and recovery by minimizing post workout stiffness. L-Carnitine is found naturally in red meat.
Recent studies have shown that the metabolism of L-Carnitine in the gut by the naturally occurring healthy gut bacteria (gut microbiome) produces a substance known as TMAO. TMAO is now widely understood to be both a pre-cursor as well as an indicator of cardio-vascular (heart) disease.
For this reason, many professional athletes are now completely avoiding the oral ingestion of L-Carnitine, choosing instead to continue to reap its benefits by having it infused via IV nutrient therapy.
Interesting facts about the mitochondria of the cell:
- Different types of cells have different numbers of mitochondria. Some simple cells contain only one or two mitochondria. However, complex cells that need a lot of energy, like muscle cells, can have thousands of mitochondria.
- They can quickly change shape and move around the cell when needed.
- When the cell needs more energy, the mitochondria can reproduce by growing larger and then dividing. If the cell needs less energy, some mitochondria will die or become inactive.
- Mitochondria are very similar to some bacteria. For this reason, some scientists think that they originally were bacteria that were absorbed by more complex cells.
- Different mitochondria produce different proteins. Some mitochondria can produce hundreds of different proteins used for various functions.
- In addition to energy in the form of ATP, they also produce small amounts of carbon dioxide.
