A healthy gut is achieved through maintaining or restoring your good/healthy gut bacteria, and healing any hyper-permeability of the gut wall or Leaky Gut. An abundance of healthy bacteria should occur naturally throughout our large intestine. These beneficial gut bacteria are referred to as the GUT Microbiome. Our body’s healthy bacteria (on the skin, in the oral cavity, in the urogenital tract and in the gut) outnumber our human cells 10:1. The gut microbiome weighs between 1 & 2kg, with 1g of intestinal matter containing up to a million healthy gut bacteria.
Individuals who opt for organic foods lower their overall risk of developing cancer, according to a 2018 study published in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine. These findings are no surprise because organic foods are less likely to contain contamination from cancer-causing herbicides and pesticides like glyphosate. (glyphosate is in our tap water and on all non-organic fruit and veggies). Chemicals in our ground tap water can also contaminate our cooking and drinking water.
Going organic or soaking (4:1 water: Apple Cider Vinegar) is the best chance we have at minimizing our exposure to harmful toxins in fresh produce.
Cancer , auto-immune conditions, anxiety, depressions and a whole host of other chronic diseases go hand in hand with poor diet and lifestyle. So why do we keep making these choices? We often attribute cravings for processed foods to mouth pleasure or convenience. However, the reality is that our state of health plays a massive role in what our body craves for energy. If our hormones are out of balance and our gut is filled with sugar-craving microbes like candida, we reach for simple sugars and caffeine to prop us up in our day-to-day life.
Once the nuclear lifestyle bombs listed above are eliminated, our health and energy levels will change dramatically. In a healthy state, the foods we crave and reach for will be what the body actually needs to thrive: FRUIT, VEG, NUTS, SEEDS, HERBS & SPICES.
